Young girls in Pakistan face a number of challenges; a jobs landscape that is rapidly evolving with the advent of technology and artificial intelligence, a social fabric that is ill equipped to support girls in equitable participation in the economy, mounting insurgency and domestic instability.
In a nutshell; we keep failing our girls. It took till 2025 for a serious effort towards a child marriage bill and currently debates rage on in popular news cycles about our out-of-school children crisis the majority of which are, you guessed it, GIRLS.
Aurattech began with the aim to address these challenges through evidence-based approaches and a belief in holistic education. Skill development cannot happen in a vacuum; it needs to be paired with rights based education and mental health support.
The answer to our current education crisis lies in inclusion and increasing access for women, this is all the more important given the climate reality looming over us as a nation.
Sometimes I feel we’re asking the wrong questions; we keep asking why girls and women drop out of school or upskill programs but don’t ask what support we offer them to manage the multiple social roles they inevitably juggle?
Even a girl of 12 or 13 is playing a role within the house, whether by taking care of younger siblings or by working, this additional labour constrains her ability to participate in her own development.
Initiatives must prioritise women.
They must be co creators in our program design; their voice is important and crucial for our program success. At Aurattech our program pilots have focused on highlighting this voice; it's not a perfect process this is something that feels very new in the development sector in Pakistan and we acknowledge that it's going to be a learning process but my aim was to keep us open to hearing that voice, to be inclusive in action not just in words.
At Aurattech we believe in a three pronged approach where Research, Advocacy and Education pair together to drive change. We pair with this a fervent belief that education must be holistic and non conforming to bring the kind of effects we hope to see. An education that says ‘help me to help myself’ while affirming the positionality of our beneficiaries. This intersectional approach has been interesting to see play out and it's been a pleasure to see our students grow through this process.
Learners (ages 15–25) joined our 3-month AI-powered bootcamp.
Of students successfully completed the program, showing high engagement, intrinsic motivation, and commitment to learning.
Only 9% dropout,mostly due to housing shifts, health issues, or attendance challenges and also reflecting strong inclusive support systems.
Of learners expressed interest in pursuing internships aligned with their skills towards the end of program.
Of learners set up LinkedIn profiles for professional networking and opportunities.
Of students opened bank accounts, moving toward financial independence.

Aurattech is a one of a kind pilot in Pakistan our strategy leaves space for growth we aim for real time trouble shooting within our program some of the recommendations our exit interviews have resulted in are incorporating career readiness into the core program, a more detailed focus on Digital/AI literacy and a more structured approach to our confident bol classes within the core program. These are all insights we will be incorporating into our next cycle of trainings.
My vision for Aurattech in the coming year is to expand the reach of our program to 500 girls while keeping our program approach as inclusive as our flagship training while also making our resources and knowledge a free access repository for other organisations to adopt. Keeping in touch with our current alumnus in some way or the other through volunteer and advocacy work is very important to us. We want there to be a sense of connection with the girls who are placing their trust in us and going through this process of learning.
Over the past three months we’ve cheered them on in their successes and worried for them whenever disaster has struck, this three month training we all saw each through an eviction drive, a flash flood and demolitions. It’s been intensely emotional for our team and students but we’re grateful to be able to support them through these times. It was situations like this that made it so important to offer mental health support.
One of the overarching goals of Aurattech is to advocate for the inclusion of Rights Based Education within public schools nationally. As we move ahead, we aim to reach more young women, strengthen community partnerships, and expand project-based, real-world learning. Like this cohort, our growth will remain grounded in evidence, inclusion, and the stories of impact that started it all.
